Visualisation: Identifying Pilot Sites for Energy Harvesting in Water Networks

How do you identify the optimal sites to recover hydro energy from water systems? This crucial question is at the heart of the H-HOPE project, which is focused on harnessing the power of water networks to create sustainable energy solutions.

Thanks to the work of our academic partners at Escola Tècnica Superior d’Enginyeria Industrial de Barcelona (ETSEIB – UPC), including experts Xavier Escaler and David Bermejo Plana, we are excited to share the results of their research on identifying pilot sites for the development of the H-HOPE energy harvester.

The process involved evaluating a range of water systems, including piping networks, open streams, and lagoons, to determine the best conditions for energy recovery. Key operational parameters such as flow rate and pressure were essential factors in the evaluation process, ensuring that the selected sites could maximize energy harvesting potential.

Some of the selected pilot sites across Europe include:
🔹 Aigües de Barcelona, Spain
🔹 ACQUE VERONESI, Italy
🔹 Vattenfall, Sweden

These sites were chosen based on their hydraulic power potential, flow stability, and suitability for energy harvesting systems.

We invite you to explore the full infographic, which visually details the key findings and pilot site selections.
