One of the key challenges in energy harvesting is ensuring that laboratory results translate effectively to real-world conditions. At Technische Universität Wien we designed a test rig designed to replicate realistic piping environments for the H-HOPE energy harvester.
This setup allows us to recreate a wide range of water velocities and discharge scenarios, providing valuable insights into how the harvester performs under varying conditions. By fine-tuning our design based on these tests, we aim to maximize power extraction and improve deployment potential in real-world water networks.
Key Focus Areas of Our Testing Phase
1. Realistic Flow Simulation
Our rig mimics the confined conditions of actual water networks, helping us assess harvester performance under different flow dynamics.
2. Performance Analysis
We test the harvester across diverse scenarios to measure efficiency and identify optimal operating parameters for enhanced energy capture.
3. Data Validation
Comparing experimental results with numerical simulations allows us to refine our models and improve future designs.
