The H-HOPE project recently participated in the webinar series organised by ETIP Hydropower, which highlights key research results from past and ongoing European hydropower initiatives. The series aims to create a space for projects, experts, and stakeholders to exchange insights on innovation and the future of hydropower in Europe.
The session was moderated by Anton J. Schleiss, who guided participants through the discussion while framing the presentations within the broader European hydropower research and policy landscape.
During the webinar, Giovanna Cavazzini presented the H-HOPE project and its approach to unlocking hidden hydropower potential within existing water infrastructures. The presentation highlighted how small-scale hydropower solutions integrated into water systems—such as drinking water networks, irrigation systems, and wastewater infrastructure—can contribute to improved energy efficiency, digitalisation, and system resilience.
Recovering this untapped energy potential represents an important opportunity for Europe’s energy transition. By making use of already existing infrastructure, these solutions can support renewable energy generation while minimising environmental impact and avoiding the need for large new installations.
The session concluded with an interactive discussion and audience Q&A, allowing participants to engage directly with the speakers and explore how research outcomes from projects like H-HOPE can support the development of more sustainable, flexible, and resilient hydropower systems across Europe.
